Week one went fast!

Trevor has been with us for just over one week and we are having a great time with him. His first day he was a bit unsure of everything but was not what I would call timid. He did stay on the deck as opposed to going down to the yard, but was pretty free in the house. By day two he had the lay of the land and was acting like he'd been here forever. You would not know that he is missing an eye...the only thing that stands out is that he barks more than other dogs we've had. He barked at our dog walker for the first 2 or 3 days, and for the first week would bark every time we came home. He still barks if you surprise him coming down the hall with heavy steps, but he ONLY barks - we have not seen any agression from him at all. He is very interested by the TV and will occasionally bark at the images there too. He and Tucker (who is twice his size) love to wrestle and play tug of war and chew on each other.

I think he came from a multiple dog situation where feeding was a free for all. He gobbles his meals up very quickly, and if you walk too close to him or make too many noises while he is eating he cowers (no growling, very submissive). This is getting better day by day as he starts to realize that no one is going to steal his food...but he still goes straight to Tucker's bowl when he's done to see if there is more for him. As of this morning he weighs 44 pounds; he needs to get a little more meat on his bones and I believe he has some more growing to do. He is still very much a puppy...he still has the goofy puppy clumsiness and the tendency to want to gnaw on anything he comes across. He is perfectly happy chewing on a tennis ball or rope bone or hard rubber; he has not shown much interest in marrow bones or rawhides.

He came to us with a dime sized scratch on his head which he scratches and rubs whenever he can. We tried to manage it on our own but it was not healing so he is on his 3rd day in a cone and its finally starting to get better. Hate putting him in a cone but he's adjusted well to having it on. He and Tucker still play (and cuddle) despite it...
